Pint of Science

The Pint of Science festival sees some of world’s best scientific researchers go to pubs across Australia to discuss their latest findings with you. This is your chance to get face-to-face with the people involved in carrying out current research. You can listen to them talk, join in games and quizzes, or just enjoy a chat over a pint.

My talk is "Crash of the Titans: When Galaxies Collide" and I'll be joined by two other physicists talking about the Universe.

Tuesday, 19 May 2015, Doors Open at 6:30 for 7pm start
Venue: The Royal, 370 Abercrombie St, Darlington, 2008

Astronomy Open Night

Please join us for an incredible evening of astronomy, astrophysics, photonics, astrophotonics and all things physics – including a large outdoor area full of telescopes, where you can observe celestial objects for yourself! Weather permitting, there will be up to 30 telescopes aimed at the glittering night sky, operated by both Macquarie University astronomers and amateur astronomers alike. Meet and chat with real-life astronomers, observe stars, planets, nebulae, star clusters and much more, and discover the night sky like you never have before!

I'm giving the featured "Illustrated Talk" for this year's event which will start at 7:30 pm in the E7B Mason Theatre.  I'll be discussing "A Long Time Ago in Galaxies Far, Far Away."

The Story of Light - The Astronomer's Perspective

A panel of professional astronomers tell “The Story of Light”, inspired by the International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies 2015.

Almost everything we know about the Universe comes from light emitted by stars and gas. The entertaining panel will describe many ways astronomers use light and light-based technologies to uncover exciting mysteries of the Universe and improve our understanding of cosmology, exoplanets, the search for life and more!

I'll be joined by astronomers Fred Watson, Joss Bland-Hawthorn, and Keith Bannister. The afternoon will be hosted by UNSW Law lecturer and regular among Sydney's stand-up comedy circuit, Justine Rogers.

I'm going to grab my voice recorder out of storage and try my best to attend some of these in the near future! There's nothing like being able to learn something from a sciencey talk! Haha!
