ISS star trails

astronaut don pettit has taken some incredible photos from the international space station, but these are a step above anything i've seen before!  long-exposure photos from the ISS, capturing star trails and lights on earth as it rotates below the space craft.

I notice something odd, particularly noticeable in photo 2...
The star trails are different lengths. Now isn't that interesting?

Great pictures, I'm guessing that the white blobs are lightning and the yellow streaks are city lights. Possibly multiple exposures of different lengths.
